The four loss floors
“Maximum drawdown” means four different things at four different firms.
| Floor | Moves how |
|---|---|
| Static | Fixed at the starting balance minus the limit. Never moves. |
| Trailing, intraday | Follows your highest equity continuously, floating profit included, so it can rise during a trade. |
| Trailing, end of day | Follows only your best end-of-day equity. Swings within a day do not move it until the day rolls over. |
| Trailing, locks at start | Trails like intraday until the floor reaches the starting balance, then stays there for good. |
“End of day” is measured on equity (floating included) at the reset time, the more common convention. If your firm uses closed balance instead, treat this as slightly stricter than yours.
