Trading sessions on the chart

See at a glance which market was open when each candle formed. Right-click the chart and tick Trading sessions.

The sessions

Each session is shaded in its own colour behind the candles, with its name at the top when there is room. Where two are open at once, such as London and New York in the afternoon, the overlap gets a colour of its own, a little stronger, so the busiest hours stand out.

SessionHours, in the city's own timeColour
Sydney07:00 to 16:00Violet
Tokyo09:00 to 18:00Blue
London08:00 to 17:00Amber
New York08:00 to 17:00Green

Tokyo, London and New York are shown at first. Pick which ones in Chart layout, under Trading sessions, which also lists today's hours for each on your data's clock.

Daylight saving

Hours are kept in each city's own time, so they move with its daylight saving and not with yours. London and New York change on different dates in spring and autumn, so for a week or two each year their overlap is an hour longer or shorter than usual; the shading shows that. Sydney's summer is the northern winter, so it moves the other way. Weekends are never shaded.

Good to know

The shading reads your data's clock (see Data and the clock), so set it correctly or the bands will sit in the wrong place. The analytics and Play only some sessions still use the fixed Asia, London and New York windows in UTC.
