Playing, stepping and speed

The controls at the right end of the toolbar move the replay one bar at a time, or play it on its own.

The buttons

  • Step forward and back (→ and ←) move one bar. With Shift, ten.
  • Play and pause (Space) plays at the chosen speed until you pause or the data ends.
  • Jump to date (G) takes you to a moment in your data.

Stepping back moves only what you see. Your trades, orders and balance are not rewound, so a trade you closed stays closed. A challenge that forbids rewinding does not allow it at all.

Speed

The slider sets how fast it plays, in five steps. 1× and 2× are slow enough to follow every candle; from 3× on it is for getting somewhere (a level, an alert, the next session), and 5× is the fast mode.

SpeedKeyCandles per second
1×11
2×22
3×35
4×412
5×524

Click a stop on the slider, drag the handle, or use the arrows either side of it. With the slider focused, the arrow keys change speed instead of stepping. Hover it for the meaning in words.

How the fast speeds keep their pace

The screen is redrawn at most 12 times a second. Past that, each redraw brings two or more new candles at once, so 24 a second holds even on a slow computer, with several symbols open. A price alert still stops on the very candle that touches it. A very heavy script can still slow a redraw down; hiding indicators, or using a lighter script, helps.

Playing only some sessions

With a session plan active, the bar also shows a skip button (N) that leaves the current market session now. See Play only some sessions.
