Writing about a trade

Open a trade and you get the facts, your screenshots, a note, and a short review.

The facts

Entry and exit price, how long it was held and in how many bars, the result in R, and two figures you will not find elsewhere: Max against (how far price went against the trade before it closed) and Max for (the best it ever got), both in R. They come from the replay's own price path, so they are exact. If the stop and target were both inside one minute, a note says the stop was assumed to fill first.

Three buttons: Replay this trade starts a new session at its entry with the future hidden, Capture chart takes a screenshot now, and Copy notes puts the entry on the clipboard as Markdown.

The note

Click and type. A new line starts a new block. Type / at the start of a line for a menu:

CommandWhat it adds
Text, Heading, Bulleted list, To-do, QuoteA block of that kind.
DividerA horizontal rule.
ScreenshotA picture of the chart as it is now, inline.
Template: ...A prepared outline: Trade plan or Trade review.

Typing # , - , [] or > at the start of a line turns it into a heading, bullet, to-do or quote. Enter on an empty bullet or to-do ends the list. Backspace at the start of a block turns it back into text. Pasting text pastes plain text, and pasting an image from the clipboard attaches it as a screenshot. Up and down arrows move between blocks.

Review

  • Execution grade, A to F: how well you followed your plan, whatever the result. A winning trade can deserve a D.
  • Outcome quality: good win, bad win, good loss or bad loss. A good loss followed the plan and lost; a bad win broke the plan and got lucky. Once you grade a trade the journal suggests one.
  • Mark as reviewed clears the trade from your to-review count.
